Because our style involves detailed trimming and chattering on most of our vessels, the Giffin Grip has been a valuable tool in our studio. However, as users of the Giffin Group will attest, the trimmings can be difficult to contain. Watch this clip to hear the reporter mention Terry had made a mess while trimming. Terry’s aversion to being messy placed him on a mission to create an easy-to-use shield for the Giffin Grip.
We first researched how others have solved this issue. Many creative options involved using large plastic tubs or cardboard boxes. Terry wanted a tool that would custom fit our Clay Boss wheel but could easily be used on any other wheel brand.
He started by making a paper template, measuring and testing height and shape. He then transferred his design to sheet metal.

The first prototype was adjusted and remade. Trim Trap 2.0 was then born. After a couple months of use, we wanted to share this success. Contact us at smithart103@gmail.com for more detailed instructions. Terry can also send you a paper template.
