My tenure at Science magazine included art directing covers for ground-breaking scientific discoveries, including the first visual representation of the AIDS virus and the discovery of the human genome. Additionally, I was honored to redesign the magazine and the publication’s branding.

I was privileged to create the first redesign in 25 years of Highlights magazine. The redesign focused on an evolution of the beloved magazine and carefully introduced redesigned features and a new editorial direction for contemporary readers. The process involved a series of parent and child focus studies, as well as new market research.
Internal page design for Highlights included puzzles, non-fiction, and fiction—a fun mix of publication design. I typically art directed 30+ illustrators and photographers for each monthly issue of Highlights. To maintain the success of the magazine’s redesign and keep the publication fresh, I introduced several new artists each month.

The alumnae publication for Converse gave me another chance to participate in a redesign. I gave the publication both a refreshed design and introduced some features intended to engage more alumnae in ongoing school activities and enrich development opportunities. Additionally, Converse was my initial foray into ghost writing and speech writing.
